I see the light - Visual perception and screen-based interaction

In this talk Jonas Lindroth will outline the fundaments of the Ecological Approach to Visual Perception and how it can be applied to our understanding of the screen. The talk will develop four claims:

- To perceive a screen is to directly perceive a structure of light, it is not a semiotic and interpretive process.
- Direct perception is dependent on the perceiver's attunement, i.e. how s/he can differentiate in a visual environment.
- The fundamental learning process in screen-based environments is to become perceptually attuned to local affordances.
- Visualization is a matter of designing visual fields where the user is forced to differentiate in a certain way.
