Conference Day: European Maritime Day 2012

The European Maritime Day is celebrated annually on 20 May since 2008. The purpose is to highlight the importance of the seas and oceans and the challenges facing maritime regions and sectors. Several events are organized across Europe and the main event is held in one place, in the form of a high level meeting and a stakeholder conference.

After Brussels 2008, Rome 2009, Gijon 2010 and Gdansk 2011, the 2012 edition will be held in Gothenburg, Västra Götaland, Sweden - for the first time in Scandinavia and in the North Sea area.

The European Commission is the organiser of the event, with the government of Sweden, Region Västra Götaland and the City of Gothenburg acting as local partners.
