  • Coordinator of International Affairs at the Midwife Education Programme, Institute of Health and Care Sciences, Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg.

Research: Malin Bogren's research aims developing, strengthening, and implementing professional competence within sexual, reproductive maternal and newborn health in settings challenged by shortage of human resources and cultural, gender, and professional-socio economic barriers, as well midwives work situation and professional role.

Ongoing central research project:

  • Implementing and evaluating midwife education programmes in the DR Congo.
  • Aastrika Birthing Center- a model for midwifery-led care in India.
  • Building a sustainable working environment for midwives and nurses in the South-East Asia region.

Completed research project:

  • Developing, testing and evaluating a context specific accreditation system for midwife education programmes in Bangladesh.
  • Building a midwife profession in the South-East Asia region.
  • Developing and evaluating a mentorship programme for midwife educators in Bangladesh.

Teaching: Research methodology with focus on qualitative methods and systematic literature reviews, sexual, reproductive, maternal and newborn health and rights in low-income contexts.

Earlier assignments and experience:

Malin has extensive experience from working with international organizations as the UN:s Population Fond (UNFPA) in Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Nepal, the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) and Doctors Without Boarder (MSF). Her clinical experience is within antenatal, labour and child birth and care during the puerperium.
