About Ingela Henoch

Ingela Henoch, PhD in Health Care Sciences, Registered Nurse (RN), Associate Professor of Nursing. Has previously had a position as RN at Bräcke Diakoni's hospice.
Research
Ingela conducts research in palliative care, with a special focus on communication, palliative care philosophy, symptom relief, and education. A project with an educational intervention about existential issues was carried out in Gothenburg and Östersund, where RN:s and enrolled nurses received a training on existential communication. The 6 S:es is a model for person-centered palliative care that focuses on palliative care philosophy in nursing. The model was developed, described, and applied in collaboration in a national network with nurse researchers at Ersta Sköndal University and with RN:s working in palliative care. A doctoral project focuses on self-determination, which is part of the model. Symptom experience and symptom relief are also the focus of Ingela's research, especially for patients with lung disease, but also three doctoral projects that focus on pain, breast cancer symptoms, and brain tumor symptoms. Students' attitudes toward caring for dying patients have been investigated in collaboration with five other universities in Sweden. Various instruments have been developed in several of the projects.
Research group
Ingela is a member of the Palliative Care Research Group at the Institute of Health and Care Sciences.
Teaching
Ingela teaches palliative care at the undergraduate level in nursing education and at the advanced level. Based on a research project on nurses' attitudes towards caring for dying patients, Ingela has developed an elective course in palliative care, which has been given for several years in the nursing education at the department. Other teaching is about scientific writing in the thesis course at the undergraduate level.
