About Maria Hoff

Maria is a registered audiologist working as a university lecturer and programme director at the BSc Audiology Programme at the University of Gothenburg. Maria's primary teaching as well as research areas invlude age-related hearing loss, tinnitus and hyperacusis. She has previously worked clinically for several years, both in Sweden and in the Unitd Kingdom, with audiological assessment and rehabilitation of person with hearing loss, tinnitus and hyperacusis.

Maria obtained a PhD in Medical Science in 2021 with the thesis: "Hearing in early old age: current perspectives".

Teaching activities

Gerontology, audiological rehabilitation, tinnitus and hyperacusis. Also supervises final projects of BSc and MSc students, and teaches about hearing diagnostics to medical students.

Research activities

Maria is part of the research group H70-Hearing (project leader: André Sadeghi), where she is conducting epidemiological research on hearing function and hearing loss in old age, also its association with cognition. The data was collected wthin a large population-based study (H70) in Göthenburg. She is also inviolved in a research project within Arbets- och miljömedicin (AMM) where the risk for hearing related sick leave among preschool personnel is studied (project leader: Sofie Fredriksson). Moreover, Maria conducts clinical research on methods for measuring treatment effects in tinnitus care, in colaboration with Hörselverksamheten, Habilitering och Hälsa.
