Introduction While the outbreak of Ebola virus disease (EVD) in Équateur Province presented a series of logistical and contextual challenges to community-based work, it provided unique opportunities to strengthen risk communication, community engagement and social mobilization. This pillar of the response comprised a spectrum of interventions and approaches to ensure that affected communities and groups at highest risk for infection were at the forefront of the response.
