In this article, I highlight three aspects related to how ‘to do’ what I (reluctantly) call qualitative research. First, I want to discuss that qualitative research methods should be regarded as an ideal entry point to learning about research and scientific thinking in general. The second aspect concerns the issue that ‘to do’ qualitative research is becoming increasingly important in addressing the complex or ‘wicked problems’ we are currently facing in healthcare, such as aging populations and the rise in chronic disease, which elude simplistic solutions. These elaborations are leading to my final point, that how ‘to do’ qualitative research is not so much related to the quality of research, but that qualitative research is particularly important in multi-professional and interdisciplinary research collaborations that are essential to tackle challenges in healthcare and effect clinical practice.
