About Christel Larsson

Christel Larsson is a Professor in food and nutrition and works as vice head of the Department of Food and Nutrition, and Sport Science, with responsibility of research. She is a trained nutritionist (MSc) at Stockholm University, gained a Masters degree in Public Health at the Karolinska Institute and also has a Masters degree in Food and Nutrition at Umeå University. In 2001 she became the first doctorate in Food and Nutrition in Sweden with a thesis on young people's food habits and health. Christel has received the Kungliga Skytteanska samfundets prize for young researchers and the food company Dr. Pers Food's research prize. She is engaged in the steering committee of the national research network in epidemiology and nutrition (NEON).

Christel conducts researches and teaches in particular how to maintain health and prevent the onset of disease by promoting healthy eating habits and physical activity. She is particularly interested in food habits, physical activity and health among children and adolescents as well as dietary assessment methods. She is principal investigator of and researcher in several ongoing studies aiming to promote healthy food habits and physical activity among people. Christel has supervised and are supervisor of several PhD-students both in Food & Nutrition, Sport Science and Public Health & Epidemiology.

Since 2020 Christel has an assignment as vice dean at the faculty of Education. Her areas of responsibility are research education, internationalization and sustainability.
