Our research

At the Department of Cultural Sciences, research is conducted in the disciplines of ethnology, film studies, gender studies, art history and visual studies, cultural studies and musicology.

The Department is home to a broad spectrum of research projects, both subject-specific and interdisciplinary. The diversity of investigative fields, themes and research traditions creates a stimulating and intellectually challenging research environment. The Department offers a richly varied range of research seminars and each year welcomes a number of international guest researchers in various fields. It also features several major research projects, research networks and centres of expertise that are considered international leaders.

Seminars

The seminars that take place within the Department break down into various different kinds. The backbone of the seminars in doctoral studies is the thesis seminars, where ongoing thesis works are presented and discussed. In addition to these, there are theory and methodology seminars, arranged into different thematic series.

Other types of seminar are guest seminars, where invited researchers present their research, and senior researcher seminars, where the Department’s own senior researchers present ongoing or recently completed research projects.
