Vision & values

Our vision is to develop R/V Skagerak into a national and world-leading research infrastructure that supports cutting-edge research and education, and provides data and knowledge for global societal benefit.

To manage the development in the marine environment in the long term, we need to understand the ocean better now. Research and science are key to understanding the complex processes that are constantly taking place in the ocean.
On board the R/V Skagerak, scientists work in marine chemistry, oceanography, marine geology, atmospheric chemistry and marine biology. Skagerak is like a floating, high-tech marine research station that can go to the areas of the ocean that need to be studied - in depth.

Core values for R/V Skagerak

The aim is to develop R/V Skagerak into a national and world-leading research infrastructure that supports cutting-edge research and education, and provides data and knowledge for global societal benefit. This has been the focus of activities since the University of Gothenburg decided in 2012 that R/V Skagerak should be built and contribute to increased knowledge of the sea.

Our values

At the heart of our operations are clear values based on our ongoing efforts to ensure that:

  • our operations meet and, where possible, exceed legal requirements for environmental responsibility. This includes careful consideration of commercial use of the Skagerak.
  • all disciplines in research and education have equal opportunities to access the R/V Skagerak.
  • operations are professional and efficient.
  • there is clear transparency in the organisation, both in decisions and in the budget.
  • follow the values shared by the entire University of Gothenburg with regard to diversity, equality and sustainability.
