Shops

The nearest shop is Daftö Resort, 8 km from Tjärnö Laboratory. It is usually open April through September. Other times of the year Strömstad is the closest alternative, with wide range of shops, pharmacies, liquor store etc. Summertime a kiosk is open on Saltö, and Bofors Camping has a small shop with some basic commodities. It is walking distance to both.

Public transportation

There is public transportation with Västtrafik. A bus goes between Strömstad and the bus stop Tjärnölaboratoriet. Timetables for bus and ferry can also be found at the reception at the station.

Swimming and other activities

Tjärnö has beautiful surroundings with great opportunities for outdoor activities. Adjacent to Tjärnö the nature reserve Saltö includes a lovely sandy beach which is shallow and child friendly. On Tjärnö the somewhat smaller beach Svallhagen is not so shallow. Follow the exit to the right, opposite the church, then you are right. Even Bofors campground has a nice beach, but it can be a bit muddy in places.

Around Tjärnö Laboratory there are opportunities for climbing, hiking, kayaking, etc. For more information on activities, visit Strömstad Infocenter.
