Mick Wilson is a professor of art (on both academic and artistic grounds, Joint BA Hons., MA, MSc, PhD.) He is currently director of studies for doctoral research at HDK-Valand; having formerly been the head of Valand Academy (2012-2018) and dean of GradCAM, Ireland (2007-2012).  He was editor-in-chief of PARSE (2015-2017); a fellow at BAK, basis voor aktuele kunst, Utrecht.(2018/2019). He lives and works in Gothenburg and Dublin.

As research professor he also teaches on several courses informed by ongoing enquiry. He is responsible for the free course 'Introduction to Contemporary Art & Politics' (summer course, 2016-ongoing); for 'On Research Methods and Research Design' (annual doctoral course, 2013-ongoing); and he teaches on the free course Public Art (one year course, 2017-ongoing).

He is convenor of the Curatorial Workshop "handfuls thrown into air and scattered over earth" as part of the Bucharest Biennale 9 "Farewell to Research" (23-26 June 2020)

Having supervised and co-supervised to completion a wide range of doctoral projects, he is currently working with doctoral researchers: Jennifer Hayashida "This Translation is an Argument"; Nick Aikens "Political Imaginaries of Contemporary Art (with special reference to the 1990s)"; Åsa Sonjasdotter "Pace and Place for Cospecies Cultivation" and co-supervisor for Eva Weinmayr "Why Publish? Politics and infrastructures of publishing" and Fiona Hallinan "Ultimology, or the study of endings, as a point of entry for imaginative discourse" (at LUCA School of Arts, Belgium, with Prof. Nancy Vansieleghem, as primary supervisor.)

Current research interests include questions of: political community with the dead; political imaginaries within curatorial practice and exhibitionary forms; the political imaginaries of foodways; and (a project currently in development) rhetorical form and method discourse in processes of knowledge conflict.

Current projects include: 'PARSE Journal'; 'Our Many Europes' / L’Internationale Online (EACEA); and 'Open Up' (EACEA).
