About Emelie Stavholm

Emelie has earned a Bachelor’s degree of Education in preschool from Jönköping University in 2009 and a Master’s degree in Global studies from the University of Gothenburg in 2012. Since then, she has worked as a preschool teacher both in Sweden and in China. She is currently a PhD-student at IPKL in the research school PRECEC. Her supervisors are Cecilia Wallerstedt and Pernilla Lagerlöf.

Emelie’s research interest concerns teacher professional learning in early childhood education. In her thesis, she is investigating how members of a work team in preschool collaboratively learn about play, teaching and digital technologies. The thesis is informed by a sociocultural perspective on learning, and audio and zoom-recordings have been used to investigate the work team’s learning processes. The compilation thesis consists of three studies, each of which focuses on specific aspects of the teachers’ learning; i) how the work team appropriate the concept of metacommunication, ii) how the work team changes their reasoning regarding their role in play, iii) how the work team develops agency in relation to the use of digital media in preschool.
