Summary

Are you interested in deepening your knowledge in Earth Sciences by visiting and exploring the local environment?

This course will provide you with skills and abilities to deal with environmental problems through excursions and visits to local consultancies.

About

The Regional Environmental Earth Science course aims to develop field and sampling strategies to identify environmental problems at the local and regional level.

The course includes visits to local consultancies to observe how environmental problems are professionally managed. 

The course includes two excursions; one excursion lasting for approximately one week and one excursion in the local area for approximately three days.

Teaching

The teaching consists of: 

  • lectures
  • excursions
  • laboratory work
  • group work
  • fieldwork

Independent assignments may be provided for those unable to attend the excursion to Norway. 

Language of instruction: English

The course is part of the Bachelor's Programme in Earth Sciences, the course is also offered as a freestanding course. 

Prerequisites and selection

Entry requirements

For admission to the course, at least 40 credits are required in the main field of Earth Sciences, Marine Sciences or Environmental Sciences. Applicants with equivalent education can, after review and approval, be given access to the course.

Selection

Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 165 credits.

After graduation

If you study Earth Science, you have good career opportunities both in Sweden and abroad. You can choose to work in industry, as a consultant, project manager or in public administration.

Our former students work, for example, with natural resource management, environmental issues and urban planning, you also have great opportunities to focus on the particular area you are interested in.
