Call for Papers: Diplomats Doing Gender, 2025

In 2025, GenDip celebrates 10 years as a research program and research community. This workshop will be an occasion both to take stock and to celebrate the large and lively academic community and body of scholarship that has since emerged on gender and diplomacy. It will focus on official diplomats, in bilateral as well as multilateral settings. The workshop will take place on May 22-24 2025 and will be located in beautiful Nääs Fabriker, just outside of Gothenburg.

We welcome papers from scholars from any discipline. The inclusion of non-Western loci are particularly welcome. Theoretically, methodologically and/or empirically innovative contributions to the study of gender and official diplomats are all encouraged.

Practical information
This is a workshop for papers-in-progress. We expect max 20 participants to present fully developed drafts of papers in need of discussion and feedback. The workshop will consist of a series of panels with paper presentations and discussants. Most participants will serve formally as discussants, but everyone is expected to have read and to be able to engage with all the papers. We will encourage participants to make use of the workshop to develop publication strategies for the papers, either joint strategies (as special issues or edited volumes) or individual ones.

A paper abstract (max 150 words), name, title, etc will be requested of those interested in attending. We will select 20 papers that fit the aims of the workshop. We aim for a mix of senior and junior scholars (and those in between) as well as a mix of scholars from different parts of the world. Link to submission system below.

Funding
Other than the cost of traveling to and from Gothenburg, Sweden, GenDip will cover all costs related to the workshop itself 22-24 May: lodging, conference fee, all meals, and
transportation Gothenburg-Nääs. GenDip unfortunately cannot cover travel costs to
Gothenburg, Sweden. We recognize that this makes it impossible for some scholars to join, but we have no such travel funding this time.
