Food insecurity is a worldwide challenge to public health and wellbeing of the population. In today’s environmentally sustainable period, food systems do not provide the world’s population with enough nutritious food even though many global, regional and national initiatives and strategies to solve food challenges were put in place. The purpose of the present study is to identify smallholder farmers’ indigenous knowledge, behavior and practices and their community interactions in relation to food security and agricultural developments that promote social change. Social cognitive, power relations and gender theories are in interplay to help the researcher understand social, psychological individual behavior change in the households and how they affect decisions concerning food safety in the community. It envisages to explore challenges in meeting the targets of food security and will in the end suggest a model based on the findings from the field study.
