LIME

The LIME project is a joint effort by the research group in aquatic ecotoxicology to assess the occurrence and impact of a pharmaceutical in the marine environment.

Data from the Swedish medicines information portal (FASS) show a steady increase of this pharmaceutical, and it has been found in several different aquatic environments, but no independent data exist on its toxicity towards marine organisms.

The pharmaceutical is, however, similar to other compounds known to have negative effects in aquatic environments and an initial assessment based on modelling suggest that it may cause negative effects on fish and aquatic insects already at low concentrations.
