Kort beskrivning

Multiple media reports have highlighted the wastage and throwaway culture associated with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), making it appropriate to investigate the sustainability agenda for public procurememt amidst a pandemic.

Aim

Our aim is to carry out a preliminary study the supply chain: First, map protocols in place in Sweden with regards to public sector procurement practices to guarantee sustainability; secondly, how suppliers manufacturing PPE prioritize adherence to sustainability registers.  In this proposed research project, we want to begin to explore these connections as a stepping stone to appreciate commitments to SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) around sustainable consumption and production (SDG 12) and climate actions (SDG 13) – and the extent to which public procurement processes was managed during a pandemic. We will illustrate using PPE, given its ubiquity in the contemporary world – and especially in the medical field for its usefulness to manage a public health crisis.
