As we have written before, most of the Earth's water now contains microplastics, ie small, small pieces of plastic, barely visible to the eye. Much new knowledge is needed about microplastics and their sources, pathways and consequences.
Therefore, we are happy to congratulate our FRAM researcher Martin Hassellöv who has received 3 MSEK from FORMAS for his project on "Nanofragmentation of weathered plastic in marine environment - increased toxicity or biodegradability".
Professor Martin Hassellöv works at the Department of Marine Sciences and leads the research group on marine environmental nanochemistry, studying marine pollution in its solid form, from nanometer scale to the ecosystem level.
