Oscar Llopis is Associate Professor at University of Valencia, researcher at INN4ALL – Research Group on Innovation, Science and Society (University of Valencia, Spain), and affiliated researcher at Gothenburg U-GOT KIES at University of Gothenburg.

He started his month by participating in the ISS2024 conference. He moderated a workshop for PhD students in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and he was also co-organizer of the Invited session “Knowledge Networks and Innovation”.

Oscar Llopis will also advance on his research project on Citizen Science (CS). CS involves the participation of non-professionals in the process of generating scientific knowledge. In recent years, numerous initiatives have been established to promote this trend, such as funding specific public calls for CS projects.  Despite its growing popularity, our understanding of citizen science remains limited.

Seminar 24th June on Citizen science: Engaging citizens in scientific knowledge creation

Oscar Llopis will present his advances on the project in a research seminar. This seminar aims to shed light on the determinants, benefits, and challenges associated with public participation in science, with a focus on CS projects in the biomedical field. We will review existing literature on the motivations and barriers to engaging citizens in scientific knowledge generation, and we will explore potential research opportunities to enhance our understanding of this phenomenon.
