An introduction to bioinformatic tools for population genomic data analysis
CeMEB and the Department of Marine Sciences offer a course aimed at detailed understanding and hands-on experience of using state of the art bioinformatics pipelines for one's own biological research questions.
Bioinformatics is increasingly becoming a necessary skill for all Biologists, especially for those working with genetic data. New developments in DNA sequencing has increased the amount of available data to the point where it is impossible to observe the data visually, so we need computers to help us. However, starting to work with bioinformatic data analyses is a very large step for most Biology students, and there is a lack of training opportunities at an introductory level.
This course aims to bridge this gap, by targeting Biology students, at the PhD level, with no previous background in bioinformatics, starting at a really basic level with command-line interfaces, and working its way up to rather complex data analyses.
The course is very hands-on, with many practical exercises, and is aimed at people who have ongoing projects where bioinformatic data analysis is necessary. Preferably people who already have data, but have problems with how to analyze them, as part of the course also offers an opportunity to analyze their own data with methods learned in class.
