I am currently in my second year of the Master's in Environmental Science. What I love most about the education system in Sweden is project-based learning, looking at the same problem from different perspectives and being able to focus on one subject at a time. Even though this particular program is very broad, you can choose your areas of focus. In my example, climatological and meteorological data.

I didn't know much about Gothenburg before I moved here, but I quickly learned to appreciate the abundance of green areas, beautiful cityscape (especially when it snows) and great people I've met here.

Fun fact about me: I love it when it gets dark, cold and gloomy in Sweden and people put up little lights on their windows.

Master's Programme
I’m currently a second-year Master’s student in the Physics Department, and I’ll soon begin a 45-credit thesis in Quantum Technology. This program is a joint one between GU and Chalmers, so I take courses with students and professors from both universities at Campus Johanneberg, which makes it feel like I’m part of both – and I love that!

One of the things that drew me here was the flexibility to explore different courses and fields before choosing a path. Plus, we have some of the most advanced labs, including a cleanroom, and WACQT, which was another big reason I chose this university.

Outside of studies, I love watching movies, vlogging, trying new foods, reading books in the different libraries, listening to music, and being outdoors – hiking, photography, or having some alone time. Exploring new places and watching sunsets with my favorite dishes are my absolute favorite things here.

Oh, and a fun fact: I had never cooked before this year! But during the summer vacation, I started experimenting in the kitchen, and now I’m hooked. I’ve been trying Indian, Chinese, Korean, and even Swedish dishes. Honestly, summer in Gothenburg is beautiful and magical – it’s the perfect time to discover new passions!

Master's programme
I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, with a special focus on bioinformatics, a fascinating branch that combines biology, technology, and data analysis. I’m passionate about the intersection of coding and life sciences, where we can use computational tools to solve complex biological questions, especially those related to genetic and molecular data.

Aside from my academic interests, I love spending time exploring various aspects of tech, coding, and data science. When I’m not deep into my studies or coding projects, you’ll likely find me engaged in some form of sport – whether it’s playing or watching, sports have always been a big part of my life.

One of the things I truly appreciate about being in Sweden is the amazing work-life balance. Sweden has an excellent environment that allows you to focus on both personal well-being and academic/professional growth. The calmness, serenity, and natural beauty of places like Gothenburg make it easy to feel at peace while staying productive.

Fun Fact: I'm always on the lookout for new experiences, whether it's diving into the latest tech innovation, playing a competitive game, or learning something unique about different cultures. I love blending my passion for technology with meeting new people – it's amazing how much you can discover through shared interests!

I'm studying the Biodiversity and Systematics Nordic Master's programme which is usually called the NABiS programme. I chose Sweden for my studies as it has the most excellent universities with a student-centric education system. I love Gothenburg for its beautiful and peaceful atmosphere with lots of beautiful landscapes to explore.

Fun Fact: My programme is designed in collaboration with the leading universities in Sweden and Norway. Along with studying at the University of Gothenburg, I also get the opportunity to study my course in different universities, which is really an interesting fact of my course.

I'm studying the Atmosphere, Climate and Ecosystems program and I'm in my second year of the Master. During the next months, I'll be doing my thesis about coastal ecosystems and will spend some time at the marine research station in Kristineberg.

I'm originally from Germany and after spending 1,5 years in France, I wanted to get another experience of living and studying abroad. So, here I am in Sweden. About Sweden, I really like the fika culture (always a good excuse for another coffee and sweet treat) and obviously, the beautiful nature with the lakes, forests and the archipelago. In my free time, I like to go running or hiking and discovering new places.

Fun fact about me: I love trying out new cafés and places with good sweet stuff and I think I know most of the good ones in Gothenburg. So if you need a fika recommendation, don't hesitate to ask me ;-)

After four years of consulting as a biologist in Canada I decided it was time to return to school and complete and Master’s in Biology. University of Gothenburg seemed like a great fit with its many partnerships with other universities and research centers such as Tjärnö marine laboratory.

I am currently completing my thesis project studying capture methods on invasive brook trout (a North American import much like myself). If I am not rattling around the animal labs or conducting field work, I’m likely trail running, rock climbing, or finding somewhere to camp.

Fun fact about me: I have lived in four countries across three continents but had never even visited Europe before moving here as I am not one to partially commit to an experience.

I’m in my second year of the Ecotoxicology Master’s programme and currently doing my thesis.

I'm in love with Gothenburg (and Sweden) because of the endless nature, even around the city. There's a really good quality of life and having so much green helps a lot.

Fun fact: I had to come here in Gothenburg in 2020 for my Erasmus exchange semester, but the pandemic had other plans… So, after my studies in Italy, I finally decided to have the abroad experience I was missing. And I ended up in the same city I was meant to study in years ago. Here I am now finally living my dream!

I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in the Earth Sciences department.

Prior to moving to Sweden, I completed my Bachelor’s and Master’s in Geology and Mining. My passion for understanding Earth’s geodynamics and addressing environmental challenges, particularly microplastic pollution in remote regions, has driven me to second Master’s degree to deepen my understanding. My goal is to use my research to impact global environmental efforts and develop sustainable solutions.

As an International Student Ambassador, I’m here to support new students in adjusting to life in Gothenburg and at the university. If you have any questions about the program, student life, or living in Sweden, feel free to reach out — I’m excited to help you make the most of your time here!

Master's programmes
I am currently studying Master's in Biology at The Faculty of Science, GU. I am an environmental science graduate from Nepal with passion for wildlife research and conservation, particularly bats. Bats are fascinating nocturnal creatures that are efficient pollinators, biological pest controllers and seed dispersers. For my thesis, I am looking into the diet of bat species found in Slottsskogen park, Gothenburg, which will help us better understand bat ecology and formulate strategies for bat conservation in the park.

Studying abroad had always been my dream. Gothenburg is so peaceful and so close to nature. It has been also top ranked as one of the most sustainable cities in the world, and thus this city was an easy 'yes' for me. I come from an indigenous community in Nepal, and my presence in STEM field seems a rare opportunity for someone from my background. Thus, being part of such a diverse learning environment has been an incredible experience for me.

Fun fact about me: I am not a night owl, but an early bird. However, only bats can keep me awake at night. 🙂
