1. Orthodox and Catholic Churches in the Nordic Countries
The diversity of Orthodox churches is a relatively new phenomenon in the Nordic countries. In recent decades, their number, as well as their membership, has grown rapidly.
This is largely due to the increased number of immigrants but also the increasing number of people who convert to an Orthodox church. In connection with this, the establishment of Orthodox practice based on the majority language and culture gives a whole new perspective on the work and role of Orthodox churches in the North.
This session aims at looking at a variety of different issues related to the establishment, organization, and work of various Orthodox churches in the Nordic countries. Some of the questions that will be discussed concern connections of these churches to the wider society, challenges and opportunities they encounter, strategies they use in order to organize their work but also approach their members in contemporary Nordic societies.
