Forskning
Mina områden är medeltida litteratur, modernismen i England och USA, den samtida romanen i England och litteraturvetenskaplig teori. I min undervisning försöker jag ge studenterna inblick i sambandet mellan historia och litteratur och väva tolkningar av äldre litterära texter samman med moderna texter: det kan, till exempel, vara produktivt att läsa en av berättelserna i Chaucers Canterbury Tales tilsammans med en samtida roman eller att förknippa ideer från 1400-talet med nyskapande modern filosofi. Jag har publicerat artiklar om medeltida poesi och om den samtida engelska romanen. Min nya bok, Dwelling in Language: Character, Psychoanalysis and Literary Consolations, publiceras 2013. Det är en ontologisk studie, som undersöker begreppet “literary character” utifrån Jacques Lacans ideer om mänsklig subjektivitet, språk och etik. Mitt aktuella projekt fokuserar på modernistiska författare i England, bland andra, Virginia Woolf, D. H. Lawrence, T. S. Eliot och Katherine Mansfield,” med utgångspunkten att deras sociala visioner och etiska estetik närmar sig 2000-talets postmodernistiska perspektiv på intermedialitet, transkulturalitet och det pluralistiska samhället.
