Stefano B. Longo är en sociolog som studerar globala utvecklingsprocesser och de sociala drivkrafterna bakom ekologisk förändring. Forskningen analyserar samspelet mellan sociala och biofysiska system med tonvikt på politisk-ekonomi och hållbar utveckling. En central komponent i hans forskningsprogram är att undersöka livsmedelssystem, ekonomisk utveckling och miljöförändringar. Ett viktigt mål med arbetet är att bättre integrera sociologiska ansatser och social teori i tvärvetenskaplig forskning inom hållbarhet. Dr. Longo har publicerat många empiriska och teoretiska bidrag till forskning, inklusive en bok, The Tragedy of the Commodity: Oceans, Fisheries, and Aquaculture, och flera peer-reviewed artiklar samt andra publikationer.
