About Vedran Omanović

Vedran Omanović is Associate Professor in Management and Organization at the Department of Business Administration at the School of Business, Economics and Law, University of Gothenburg, Sweden. He defended his doctoral thesis at University of Gothenburg in 2006.

Vedran's research has been focusing on a variety of contemporary organizational phenomena.

He has over 20 years of experience researching “diversity in organizations”. In his recent research he focused on practices of organizing labor market and workplace integration, as well as organizational socialization of (refugee) migrants. By using a reflexivity lens, in his research Vedran has also focused on the stories behind the stories in management and organizational research. Vedran’s research could be characterized as “multiparadigmatic”, as he has studied different organizational phenomena through the lenses of different theoretical positions: interpretative, critical, discursive, dialectical, intersectional, and sometimes in a combination of these. Recent articles appeared in Journal of Management Inquiry, and European Management Review in 2023. He is co-author of Institutions and Organizations of Refugee Integration published by Palgrave Macmillan (2020). Vedran’s journal article (co-authored with David Knights) was selected as the outstanding paper in the 2017 Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence.

Vedran has many years of teaching and supervising experiences at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. He has also been involved in planning, developing, and examining several courses, as well as served as a Board Member for a master program in Strategic Human Resource Management. Vedran has supervised around 90 Bachelor and Master theses. As a teacher and supervisor, Vedran’s ambition is to increase the students´ understandings of different (alternative) points of view concerning the main topic(s) of the courses/research. In his opinion, reflecting upon various organizational phenomena through the lenses of different theoretical and methodological perspectives helps to acquire a more nuanced knowledge.
