About Vicki Johansson

Background Vicki Johansson is a Doctor of Political Science (1997) and Associate Professor in Public Administration (2006).

She is chair in the institution's research programmes board and member of the institution's first-cycle study programmes board.

Before she started work at the University, Vicki Johansson worked as a theatre instructor in an independent theatre group "Lekteatern i Värmland" and as a municipal investigator. Research interests Vicki Johansson has mainly pursued research within four areas:

  • Local politics and administration
  • Local gender power and change
  • Audit, inspection and implementation
  • Risk management and decision-making  

Completed research project Vicki Johansson has been Project Manager and/or collaborator in several research projects including:

"Democracy in change, 1993-1996 (HSFR)"

"Society's organisation of care and men and women on local salary labour markets, 1998-2000" (HSFR/VR)

"The Efficiency of Inspections, 2004- 2005"(FAS)

"Political Leaders in European Cities, 2004-2006"

"Natural catastrophes and learning: crises and knowledge transfer in municipalities, 2006-2009"(MSB)

"Risk Decisions in Transportation, 2007-2010" (TRANSAM). Teaching Vicki Johansson coordinates and participates in teaching the bachelor's, master's and third-cycle programmes in public administration as well as in the institution's contract education programme.

She is, and has been, supervisor for around ten doctoral theses and for contract education courses in scrutiny. In the bachelor's and master's programmes, she participates as a lecturer on various themes related to her research interests, political means of control, implementation and decision processes and civil service forms.

She is also a supervisor and examiner for master's theses and bachelor's projects. Vicki Johansson also has experience from teaching many different courses and themes with focus on, for example, quantitative methods, organisation theory, the welfare state, gender and power. Collaboration Vicki Johansson is initiator and coordinator for the interdisciplinary collaboration and research network on public organisations and control (NOOS), between social science institutes at Swedish Universities and Higher Education Institutes. Vicki Johansson is a lecturer in great demand at conferences and seminars arranged by official bodies at the state and municipal level.
