Center of excellence in artistic research: Center for Art and the Political Imaginary
The Center for Art and the Political Imaginary (CAPIm) is dedicated to interdisciplinary practice and research at the intersection of contemporary art and the future of politics. The Centre is based at two art schools, HDK-Valand at the University of Gothenburg and Kungl. The centre aims to promote links between research and education through a commitment to experimental methods. CAPIm is the first Swedish centre of excellence in the field of artistic research.
The Centre's activities are organised around four conceptual strands that guide the building of innovative frameworks for education and research. Climate Imaginaries engage with radical ecological change and environmental futures. Historical imaginaries address decolonial approaches to collective memory and nationalist representations, as well as non-aligned movements and intensified globalisation. Democratic imaginaries draw on the polarisation of the public sphere and emerging forms of illiberalism. Technological imaginaries focus on the interplay between art and technological development and the resulting projections of possible futures.
