Excavations in Varnhem continue to surprise archaeologist
Since 2005 there have been active excavations in Varnhem, with the Viking Age "Kata farm" as the most important finding thus far. During the 1920s the medieval monastery was excavated, but the associated economy buildings were still in what was then arable land. Now the focus of excavations have returned to the monastery and its associated activities. Thanks to the University of Gothenburg having placed their archaeological field courses in Varnhem, new excavations can be conducted in the monastery area.
