This research project is focusing on the exploration of the influences of innovation on R&D in the helatcare industry, building on theories around knowledge spillovers, technological importance of patents, and drug repurposing. The dissertation includes quantitatively assessing a combination of dataset from health authorities and patent registration offices to asses the impact of innovative outcomes in that industry. In a second chapter qualitative data from university industry collaborations are assessed to enhance the understanding of their interactions. The aim of the dissertation is to understand the developments in the industry better and how policy makers and firms can influence the R&D activities better.
