Visiting Professor: Cecilia Albin

Professor Albin´s expertise and interests are in the field of theories and practices of international negotiation, skills training in negotiation, intractable conflict, conflict resolution, sustainable peace, multilateral cooperation, and ethics and justice studies. She is widely published in these areas, in both academic and policy outlets.

She did her university studies in France (Sciences Po) and in the US (MSc in Foreign Service, Georgetown, and PhD in International Relations, Johns Hopkins) on a series of scholarships and fellowships including as a United States Institute of Peace Scholar and a MacArthur Fellow.

Professor Albin has held senior research and teaching positions at the Universities of Cambridge, University of Reading, and Uppsala University entailing, among other things, lead roles in research management, staff/student recruitment and program and course development at all levels. She has also held visiting research positions including at Harvard Law School, Stanford University, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the University of Queensland and Oxford. She has worked with policy and consultancy jobs for the Gorbachev Foundation, Arthur D. Little, the Foundation for Global Community in Israel-Palestine, United Nations Development Program in New York and the Warwick Commission on WTO reforms. She is also a Steering Committee Member of the Processes of International Negotiation Program (PIN), based at the German Institute of Global and Area Studies in Hamburg, and take an active part in its numerous collaborative research activities.

At SGS, her main research work is leading the collaborative PIN project ”Negotiating Justice: From Conflict to Agreement”. She will also have commissioned tasks and participate in other projects, mainly on international negotiation.
