Successful conference in honour of Joseph A. Schumpeter
The ISS2024 conference attracted a range of scholars, from first year PhD students to Professor emeriti. Over two hundred scientific delegates presented more than 130 papers and 44 poster presentations, at the International Joseph A. Schumpeter conference on 9th-11th June 2024 in Gothenburg.
The first day was dedicated to ten PhD student workshops. These workshops engaged more than 40 PhD students presenting their current research, and over 30 professors and associate professors giving comments. These dedicated workshops not only gave direct comments to on-going research, but also welcomed new scholars into the community.
This day was the conference opened for registration and mingle, with good food, pleasant reunions, interesting conversations and live Swedish folk music by Järnholmens spelmanslag..
Plenary lectures with different perspectives on Innovation and Entrepreneurship
During the conference three plenary lectures took place. The first one was on “Schumpeter’s Venture Money”, by professors Mikael Peneder and Andreas Resch. The second was the Swedish Schumpeter Lecture 2024, co-organized with The Swedish Entrepreneurship Forum. Speaker was Professor Javier Miranda on the topic “The Promise and Perils of Entrepreneurship”. The last, which was also the Presidential lecture was held by Professor Maureen McKelvey, titled “Is Sweden Leading or Lost? Renewal through Innovation and Entrepreneurship”.

Promoting Scientific Debates
A new format for scientific debate at ISS2024 included twelve Invited Sessions, a kind of crowd-sourcing of ideas relevant today. The topics and organizers of the Invited Sessions:

- Should Schumpeterian Macroeconomics be(come) stock-flow consistent: Bart Verspagen

Presidential change
On the final day of the ISS2024 conference, Patrick Llerena assumed the role of President, which includes organizing the ISS2026 conference in early July 2026 in Strasbourg. Hence, Maureen McKelvey has now completed her academic service as President of the International Joseph A. Schumpeter Society.

The purpose of the International Joseph A. Schumpeter Society is to further research in directions that are of interest in the spirit of Joseph A. Schumpeter. It is incorporated as a non-profit German corporation with headquarters in Augsburg, Germany. The membership totals to 379 members from 56 countries.
