Agnes Cornell är docent i statsvetenskap och lektor vid statsvenskapliga institutionen vid Göteborgs universitet.
Cornells forskning rör sig i skärningspunkten mellan studiet av den offentliga administrationen och jämförande politik. Hon studerar främst relationen mellan den offentliga administrationen och demokrati, politiska institutioner och medborgares interaktion med statens institutioner både historiskt och i nutid. Cornell forskar även om bistånd och demokratiseringsprocesser.
Cornells forskning har bland annat publicerats eller är kommande i Journal of Politics, Comparative Political Studies, Governance, European Journal of Political Research, Public Administration, Journal of Democracy och Democratization.
Cornell har tillsammans med Jørgen Møller och Svend-Erik Skaaning skrivit monografin Democratic Stability in an Age of Crisis: Reassessing the Interwar period (2020, Oxford University Press).
Cornell är studierektor för det internationella mastersprogrammet International Administration and Global Governance (IAGG).
