Marin kemisk ekologi
Inom kemisk ekologi studerar vi hur naturligt producerade kemiska ämnen (naturprodukter) styr samspelet mellan organismer i olika miljöer. Kemisk kommunikation och kemisk signalering är mycket viktiga processer och styr födostrategier och födoval, val av partner och habitat, samt inducerar försvar och parning hos en lång rad organismer från bakterier, alger och växter till ryggradslösa djur, fiskar, däggdjur och fåglar. Med ökad kunskap om naturprodukternas kemiska struktur och verkningsmekanismer (bioaktivitet) ökar vår förståelse för biologiska interaktioner och deras effekter på ekosystem på kort och på lång sikt. Med ökad kunskap om dessa bioaktiva ämnen följer även möjligheten att utveckla tillämpningar i samarbete med företag och samhälle.
