Om Ludger Grote

Ludger Groteis currently the medical director of the Sleep Disorders Center at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden.

After training in sleep medicine at the Zeitreihenlabor, University of Marburg, Germany, (headed by Jörg Herman Peter) he joined the sleep research group at Sahlgrenska University in Gothenburg, Sweden (group leader Jan Hedner) since 1998. Today he is an Adjunct Professor at the Institute of Medicine (area respiratory medicine, sleep related disorders), Sahlgrenska Academy, Gothenburg University, and supervisor for PhD students in respiratory and sleep research on topics related to sleep in COPD patients, traffic safety in sleep apnea, cardio-metabolic risk assessment during sleep, and the interaction between pain, restless legs syndrome, and sleep. From 2015 to 2016 he joined the Research Group for Sleep and Respiratory Medicine at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA,as a guest researcher.

Ludger Grote has published more than 200 original papers, book chapters, and monographs. He is active in national and international networks like the European Sleep Apnea Database (ESADA), the Swedish Sleep Apnea Registry (SESAR), the Swedish Oxygen and home ventilation registry SWEDEVOX, and the SLEEP SCAPIS group.

In the European Sleep Research Society, he servedas the chair of the Executive Committee of the Assembly of National Sleep Societies (2010-14) and as a currentmember of the Sleep Education Committee. He was the former president of the Swedish Sleep Society (2007-2011),where he is responsible today for educational programs.In addition, Ludger is scientific secretary of the Swedish Respiratory Society (SLMF, 2017 and ongoing) and chair of the national working group (NAG) on sleep apnea within the national program area “Respiratory Medicine” (NPO) (2019 and ongoing)
