About Alan Said

Alan Said is Associate Professor of Computer Science at the Department of Applied Information Technology at the University of Gothenburg. His research focuses on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and recommender systems, with a particular interest in fairness, transparency, and sustainability in AI. Alan’s work explores how AI-driven decision-making impacts individuals and society, from personalization in digital platforms to the environmental footprint of machine learning models.

With a background spanning academia and industry, Alan has held research positions at institutions including Delft University of Technology and Technische Universität Berlin, as well as working as a machine learning engineer in the private sector. His interdisciplinary approach bridges technical innovation with societal impact, and he actively collaborates across disciplines to advance ethical AI development.

His work has been supported by research grants, focusing on responsible AI, healthcare applications of machine learning, and sustainable AI development. He also played a key role in developing the MSc program in Human-Centered AI, contributing to curriculum design and interdisciplinary education in AI.
