About Anna Forné

Background

I earned my PhD at Lund University. The topic of my thesis was the Mexican writer Carmen Boullosa’s hypertextual rewritings of the memoirs of the pirate Exquemelin (1678) in two novels. I held lecturing positions at Linköping University and Växjö University until 2006, when I accepted a post-doctoral position as a researcher of the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities, held at the University of Gothenburg. In 2011, I was appointed assistant professor in Spanish, and since 2014 I work as associate professor at the Department of Languages and Literatures.

Research

My research, carried out in the area of cultural studies, has in the past ten years revolved around the narratives of memories of dictatorship in Argentina and Uruguay, with a special focus on the materiality of memory and autofictional strategies. I have also worked with dystopic narratives as well as on border-crossing identities in contemporary literature and film. I am currently involved in a project funded by the Swedish Foundation for Humanities and Social Sciences on the role of the Cuban cultural institution Casa de las Américas and the influence of the literary prize it awards in the category of testimonial literature on the formation and conceptualisation of the testimonial genre. The title of the project is The Politics of Poetics: The Testimonial Genre and the Literary Prize of Casa de las Américas (1970-2011).

Teaching

I have taught most of the subjects and courses offered at university language departments. In the last few years I have mainly taught academic writing, supervised graduate papers and taught Master’s courses in cultural studies.
