Magnus Lundgren is Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor (Docent) at the Department of Political Science. His primary research interests are international organizations, armed conflict, and multilateral negotiations. He is the principal investigator of the research project “Terror-listing and Mediation in Armed Conflict”, funded by the Folke Bernadotte Academy. He is the co-principal investigator of the research project “The Global Governance of Artificial Intelligence”, funded by the Wallenberg Foundations. He is an investigator in the research projects “The United Nations Security Council and State Actions” and “Explaining the Decline of Mediation in Armed Conflict”, both funded by the Swedish Research Council.
Lundgren previously worked for the United Nations, mainly in Bangladesh, dealing with political affairs. He is Deputy Director of the Centre for Multilateral Negotiations, a non-profit that collects and spreads best practices in international negotiation facilitation. He has been a visiting researcher at Stanford University, University of Wisconsin at Madison, and Peace Research Institute Frankfurt.
His publications have appeared in peer-reviewed academic journals such as Journal of Conflict Resolution, International Studies Quarterly, British Journal of Political Science, Journal of Peace Research, Review of International Organizations, European Journal of International Relations, Global Governance, Conflict Management and Peace Science, International Studies Review, European Union Politics, Journal of European Public Policy, Cooperation and Conflict, Contemporary Security Policy, and International Negotiation.
Lundgren teaches within the International Administration and Global Governance master’s programme, the department’s advanced methods courses, and the introductory-level international politics course.
