European Integration: Current Research and Theory
Summary
This course will provide you with a deeper understanding of European integration. You will study and critically analyse current research findings in the field of European Studies. Having finished the course, you will be able to critically reflect on and analyse current theory and research on processes of European integration.
About
This course lays the theoretical foundation for a broad interdisciplinary and problem-oriented approach to the legal, political, economic and social aspects of European integration. You will gain in-depth knowledge of the historical development of the institutions, organization, processes and practices of the European Union. By critically analysing current research in different European Studies disciplines, you will learn how theoretical research findings can be applied to real practical problems arising from the process of European integration. The course provides an overview of current theory and research on processes of European integration and students will learn to critically reflect on and discuss this research.
Prerequisites and selection
Entry requirements
The entry requirements for the course is a Bachelor?s degree of 180 credits, with a minimum of 90 credits courses in a social sciences discipline, humanities discipline or equivalent. Students at the Law programme are also eligible the course after three years of studies (180 credits, equivalent of a bachelor degree). Applicants must prove their knowledge of English: English 6/English B from Swedish Upper Secondary School or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS.
Selection
Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 165 credits.
After graduation
Once you have finished the course, you will have in-depth knowledge about the European Union and the process of European integration. You will be able to formulate and argue for interesting research problems and apply European integration theories from different disciplines to empirical cases. You will be able to navigate current research on European integration, critically reflect on such research, and improve your own writing and oral presentation skills.
