Social Change
About
This course addresses general theories of social change in modern society with a particular emphasis on theories and analyses of globalization as a process of change. In particular the role of capitalism, colonialism, the nation state, nationalism and social movements in relation to globalization are reviewed and discussed. Further, the students undertake project work in which they empirically investigate and analyse a social movement in relation to its globalized context.
Prerequisites and selection
Entry requirements
To be eligible to the course 15 credits in Sociology at the advanced level is required or the equivalent. For students registered before 2007-07-01 at least 80 credits in Sociology, Social Psychology or Criminology is required. Applicants must prove their knowledge of English: English 6/English B from Swedish Upper Secondary School or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS.
Selection
Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 165 credits.
Facilities
Teaching takes place in the premises of the Faculty of Social Sciences in the Haga district in central Gothenburg. Lectures and seminars within "Campus Haga" are held in the buildings Dragonen and Sappören (Sprängkullsgatan) as well as Husaren (Husargatan).
