Meet more PolCom students
Mislav Bitanga from Croatia and Rahel Roloff from Germany are two of the international students at JMG's Master's Programme in Political Communication (PolCom). Like Nicole DeLay and Magnus Andersson from Sweden, they are happy to tell why they have chosen this programme.
Mislav Bitanga, Croatia
The Master's programme in Political Communication puts students on the forefront of research, providing them with knowledge that is becoming more important in the dynamic world of politics.
The best part about this programme is the many opportunities it provides, both academically and professionally. Although it is challenging, the system of studying is created to make learning dynamic and fun.
Personally, I fell in love with research and would like to continue my education at the doctoral level. Studying at the University of Gothenburg is for anyone who wants top-level education and a diverse cultural surrounding. I have made friends from all over the world, while also experiencing the Swedish way of life.
Rahel Roloff, Germany
I was intrigued by the individual design of the PolCom courses here in Gothenburg when I was looking for international Master’s Programmes.
During my Bachelor’s program in Media Studies, I worked as a Strategic Communications intern in an international center for security studies. I decided to shift my focus towards strategic communications in the political field for my post-graduate studies.
With the combination of courses like Strategic Communication, Crisis Communication and research on the interplay between politics and the media, this program gives a very diverse and multilayered insight to the new research field that is Political Communication.
The study culture here in Sweden definitely lives up to its excellent reputation. Being surrounded by students with diverse backgrounds from all over the world challenges my perspectives on all kind of topics and has widened my view not only academically but also personally.
Nicole DeLay, Sweden
I had an eye-opener during my last internship at an international human rights organisation. I did my internship within another area than communication, but when I came in contact with the communicators’ work I knew I wanted to work as one.
Coming from a background in human rights studies and wanting to learn more about communication, I was thrilled to see that JMG had a new international Master’s Programme that combined studies of politics and the media.
Political communication is not only about political party campaigning, it is also about topics like opinion formation and digital activism. The diversity of courses in this programme also provides an excellent skillset for working as a communicator at non-governmental organisations, as I intend to do after graduating.
Magnus Andersson, Sweden
When I did my internship at a think tank in Stockholm I asked around what the people working there had studied. Most of them said political communication, and the more I talked to them and the more I worked there, I realised that this was the way I wanted to engage in politics.
After I got a tip from my friend that this programme existed I saw that more or less every single course touched upon what I did during my internship. It felt natural to choose this programme, and I can not say that I'm disappointed!
Having done my bachelor in political science here at Gothenburg University I feel confident in choosing this university again, especially JMG, which is where I studied a year of international relations during my bachelor.
