Introduction to formal linguistics
About
This course will provide an intensive introduction to formal linguistics including relevant aspects of the main subfields of linguistics such as phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and lexicology. It also introduces lab exercises with practical applications of linguistic theory within language technology.
This course is open to
Exchange students at the Faculty of Humanities and exchange students on a university-wide agreement. Please contact your international coordinator at the University of Gothenburg if you need to know more.
Entry requirements
For admission to the course a Bachelor Degree in one of the following subjects is required:
- computer science,
- computational linguistics or language technology,
- linguistics (including at least 30 credits in formal linguistics or programming),
- adjacent subject, e.g. cognitive science, languages, philosophy or mathematics (including at least 30 credits in formal linguistics or programming), or the equivalent after assessment.
English 6 or equivalent is also required.
