Jag är en teoretisk evolutionsbiolog som studerar de mekanismer som underlättar, hindrar, begränsar eller förhindrar lokal anpassning av naturliga populationer under miljöförhållanden som förändras i tid och rum. Jag är specifikt intresserad av att förstå hur potentialen för lokal anpassning påverkas av olika arters livshistoriska egenskaper (t.ex. spridning, reproduktionsstrategi) och av genomiska egenskaper (t.ex. fördelningen av loci under selektion i genomet). Jag studerar dessa frågor från två vinklar:
- artutbredningsförändringar (d.v.s. förskjutningar, expansioner, sammandragningar); och
- populationsdivergens och artbildning.
Min forskningsmetod involverar i första hand matematiska modeller och individbaserade rumsligt explicita datorsimuleringar. Jag har varit involverad i modelleringsarbete kopplat till empiriska data från strandsnäckan Littorina saxatilis, blåstång Fucus vesiculosus och Fucus radicans, isopod Idotea balthica, fiskkorkvinge (Symphodus melops), samt Bufo bufo och B. spinosus paddor.
Jag är för närvarande aktivt involverad i två externt finansierade projekt:
- "Gener på flykt - hur man minskar förlusten av genetisk variation under klimatinducerad migration". Roll: co-PI. Projekt PI: Kerstin Johannesson. Finansieras av Vetenskapsrådet Formas (pågår 2020 – 2022).
- "Rekombinationshastighetsvariation, lokal anpassning och artbildning under genflöde: en förenande teori". Roll: PI. Finansieras av Vetenskapsrådet Vetenskapsrådet (pågår 2022 – 2025).
