Presentation
Nicholas Charron är professor i statsvetenskap och verksam som forskare vid QoG-institutet (The Quality of Government Institute) vid Göteborgs universitet.
Forskningsintresse
Charrons forskningsområde är framför allt komparativ politik, med ett särskilt fokus på bl.a. politiska institutioner, korruption, samhällsstyrningens kvalitet och hur dessa faktorer påverkar ekonomisk och social utveckling runt om i världen, i synnerhet inom EU och USA. Han har även publicerat en bok på temat samhällsstyrningens kvalitet och korruption inom EU. Boken bygger på undersökningar som är gjorda på både nationell och regional nivå i Europa.
Nuvarande forskning
Under senare tid har Charrons forskning inriktat sig på att analysera hur byråkratiska institutioner, demokratiska institutioner (så som valsystem, federalism/decentralisering) påverkar korruption och samhällsstyrningens kvalitet. Han skriver även om orsaker till och konsekvenser av de ekonomiska klyfterna på regional nivå inom länder i Europa, och jämställdhet och korruption, samt varför EU-medborgare stödjer/motsätter sig ytterligare europeisering och gränsöverskridande omfördelning inom EU.
Undervisning
Nicholas Charron har huvudansvar för PhD kursen “Advanced statistical approaches for social scientists” som ingår i forskarutbildning och undervisar i flera andra kurser som bl.a. komparativ politik, metod, USA:s utrikespolitik och ’Quality of Government in a Comaprative Perspectiv’.
Publikationer
Charrons artiklar har publicerats/kommer att publiceras i bl.a. Journal of Politics, Journal of European Public Policy, Comparative Political Studies, Journal of Common Market Studies, International Studies Quarterly, European Journal of Political Research, Electoral Studies, Studies of Comparative International Development, Journal of Comparative Economics and Publius: The Journal of Federalism. Han har också publicerat flera policyrapporter, på uppdrag av bl.a. EU-kommissionen och SIEPS (Svenska Institutet för Europapolitiska Studier). Charron deltar aktivt i den allmänna debatten i USA och Sverige genom att bl.a. ställa upp på intervjuer i olika typer av media.
