About Sara Rebecka Stenkvist

Sara Rebecka Stenkvist is a senior lecturer in communication science at the Department of Philosophy, Linguistics, and Theory of Science. She holds a PhD in Journalism, Media, and Communication from the University of Gothenburg. Sara defended her dissertation in 2024, titled “A Self-Feeding Machinery. An Ethnographic Study of Communication Activities at a Swedish Government Agency.” The dissertation is a critical socio-material investigation of communication as a contemporary phenomenon in public administration, addressing topics such as opinion formation, brand orientation, marketization, empty labor, and administration.

Sara has a background as a high school teacher in Swedish and History and has completed a master’s program focusing on authorities and public administration. Her previous studies include pedagogy, literature, Swedish, history, social anthropology, international relations, critical exhibition studies, and literary composition. She has several years of work experience as a teacher in folk high schools, high schools, and secondary schools, as well as experience in performing arts.

Research Interests

Sara’s research interests span fields such as strategic and political communication at the intersection of social sciences and humanities. She is particularly interested in the political language/propaganda of administration, as well as issues related to democracy, public sphere, opinion formation, journalism, and the role of media in public discourse.

Ongoing Research

Teaching

Teaching in the master’s program in communication within public administration at the Department of Philosophy, Linguistics, and Theory of Science, as well as teaching in the bachelor’s program in Media and Communication Studies at JMG. She teaches courses in organizational communication, strategic communication, communication in public administration, and qualitative methods.
