About Abhishek Niroula

Abhishek Niroula is Assistant Professor of Data-driven precision medicine and diagnostics at the Institute of Biomedicine, University of Gothenburg and a data-driven life science (DDLS) fellow in precision medicine and diagnostics. My research focuses on the mechanisms of cancer development in blood. We study clonal hematopoiesis (CH) defined by somatic genetic variants in blood cells of hematologically healthy individuals. The frequency of CH is common in the elderly population and it is associated with a higher risk of blood cancer, mortality, and several chronic diseases (e.g., cardiovascular, kidney, liver, and pulmonary diseases). We study how CH originates, evolves, and leads to diseases, including cancer. Our projects involve analysis of large scale DNA sequencing data and integration with multi-omics data.

Open positions: We are looking for bioinformatics Masters students, PhD students, and postdocs to join our team. If you are interested, please send us an email.
