About Anders Engström
Anders Engström is principal bassoon at the Royal Swedish Orchestra, Kungliga Hovkapellet, at the Royal Opera in Stockholm since 2010. Prior to that he was co-principal bassoon in the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra from 1987 to 2010. Besides the orchestra he is very active as a soloist and chamber musician in Sweden and abroad.
Anders Engström is the main teacher of bassoon at the Academy of Music in Gothenburg. He has also given master courses in Paris, New York, Chicago and Rio de Janeiro among other places.
Anders Engström studied at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm with Knut Sönstevold.He also studied in Switzerland with Roger Birnstingl and in the USA with Sol Schoenbach and Sherman Walt.
He received, as the first bassoonist in Sweden, a Soloist Diploma in 1987. The same year he won the first prize at the international music competition in Geneva and also the Villa-Lobos prize by the Brazilian State.
Anders Engström has participated as a jury member in many international music competitions including the Prague Spring International Music Festival, the Geneva International Music Competition and the Fernand Gillet-Hugo Fox Competition.
