About Anders Simonsen
Born in 1966. Educated at the University of Gothenburg. Defended my PhD in history in 2001 with the thesis 'Bland hederligt folk. Organiserat sällskapsliv och borgerlig formering i Göteborg 1755-1820' (Among honest people. Organized social life and the bourgeois formation in Gothenburg: 1755-1820). Here I investigated to what extent and in what ways the 18th century and early 19th century societies, clubs and groups contributed to the formation of a bourgeoisie in Gothenburg.
My scientific interest has remained focused primarily on social and cultural conditions in the 18th century. In 2006 I was involved in Andreas Önnerfors (ed.) 'Mystiskt brödraskap - mäktigt nätverk. Studier i det svenska 1700-talsfrimureriet' (Mystical Brotherhood - powerful networks. Studies in the Swedish 18th century freemasonry), where I presented possible social-historical approaches to the Freemasons General Matrikel.
