About August Ambjörnsson
I am a doctoral student in human geography and a member of the research group on landscape and planning. In my doctoral project, I examine cultural centers: common spaces for culture, art, and democracy. Using qualitative methods, I will examine how cultural centers are shaped by social and cultural dynamics, how they can contribute to democratic participation, and how they vary depending on geographical context and management form.
Before starting my doctoral studies, I was a student in the post-master course "Tusen Kulturhus" at the Royal Institute of Art. The work we created in the course "Tusen Kulturhus" can be found here: https://ettusenett.se/. I also hold a master's degree in human geography and a bachelor's degree in political science, economy and human geography, both from Lund University. My research interests include cultural policy and the place of art and culture in society, collective production of space, and how space and place can be used to transform society, both today and historically. Previously, I have written about Folkets Park and the labor movement's spaces for entertainment and organizing.
Feel free to reach out if you want to talk more about cultural centers or have ideas for joint projects. I appreciate collaborations and exchanges in professional, activist, and academic projects.
