About Birgit Karlsson

I am an Associate professor in Economic History. My dissertation dealt with the use of trade as a political weapon and how it affected the interpretation of Swedish neutrality after WW II. My research has continued with trade issues, like trade between Sweden and Nazi Germany. During the last years my research focus has been on cartels and company cooperation during the 20th century. I have led several research project and also been a member of the review panel for historical research at the Swedish Research council.

I am a senior lecturer in economic history and have developed a lot of courses, often across department borders. It is still one of my main tasks to give lectures, mainly on Graduate level. I have been the supervisor of three doctoral students. I have also taken part in writing pedagogical books in history.

During the last years my main task has been as Head of Department. Three “old” departments were merged into one in 2012 and it has taken a lot of effort to create functioning routines for the new department.
